Truthful Words Are Not Beautiful. Beautiful Words Are Not Truthful.

Updated: Sep 14, 2020

Lao Tzu was an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer. His quotes of wisdom and philosophy remain relevant up until this day with people from all walks of life constantly referring to his words for motivation and inspiration. One of the quotes that stand out to me the most is the following:

  • "Truthful words are not beautiful; beautiful words are not truthful. Good words are not persuasive; persuasive words are not good."

Why this stands out is because through many instances in my life, i found myself becoming upset from truthful words spoken that seemed harsh at first only to realise that it was the best thing that could have happened to me. It allowed me to learn and grow which made me a better person overall.

Why do i share this with you? I share this because by absorbing the truth of ones words and truly reflecting upon them with an open mind, it will allow you to continue to develop as a person. However, if the truthful words insult you and you refuse to accept them, it will only hinder your growth as a person.

As hard as it may seem, always embrace the truth and use the truth to develop you into a better person regardless of how hard it may be.
